I am happy to say that all the works sent to our 4th Competition
were really worthy of praise, as might have been expected because
they were made by the prize winners in our previous Contests. Since
our last Contest I have noticed that most of the works have been
beyond the level of copying the photo of the model pattern. This
is a marvelous change because it shows that the idea that dressing
the fly is not copying the model but expressing our own sensitivity,
that means creating a new thing has spread among fly dressers.
One more thing to please me this time is that a new Grand Prix winner
was born after some intervals Mr. Masahiko Uchida has made remarkable
progress with his fly dressing technique owing to his quite strong
power of concentration and won Grand Prix over many previous prize
winners, as in the case of Mr. Ryuji Takahara, Grand Prix winner
in our 3rd Competition. I would like to applaud him with all my
heart, expecting him to widen his sphere of activity and to open
his original world in the future.
