第９回フライドレッシング・コンテストを振り返って
大変嬉しい結果となりました。コンテストで久しぶりのグランプリの誕生です。
回を重ねる毎に腕前を上げ続けてきた赤岩和彦さんが、壁をうち破って独自の世界に一歩足を踏み出しました。彼の努力と才能に心から拍手を送り、今後の活躍を期待したいと思います。
今回の予選通過作品は６７点、その内の５８点をここに掲載しました。ご覧になってお気づきのことと思いますが、これらの作品にはこれまでのような大きな実力差が見られなくなっています。参加者のレベルがかなり高いところで均衡し始め、上位に入選したドレッサーの多くが、既に何回もの入賞経験を持っています。
レベルがここまで上がると、少しばかり他人より多くのフライを巻いただけで壁をうち破ることは困難です。タイヤーからドレッサーへ、クラフトマンからアーティストへ変身するには、思い切った集中力と技巧を超越した精神が欠かせません。フライとは何か、フライフィッシングとは一体どういう釣りなのか。
この答えを見つけることが、全てを解決する鍵だと思います。

A General Comment on the 9th Fly Dressing Contest
I am very satisfied with the great results in this Contest. A
Grand Prix winner was born here, not waiting for our next Competition!
It is a splendid achievement after a long time although we had
a Grand Prix winner in the last Competition. Mr. Kazuhiko Akaiwa,
who continued to make good progress at every Contest, finally
has broken the wall and taken the first step into his original
world. I applaud his effort and talent from the bottom of my heart
and expect him to play more active part from now on.
67 art works qualified this time and 58 of them are introduced
here. I am sure that you will notice that these works have not
got such a big level difference as before. Most of the works have
equally reached a rather high level. Actually, many of the top
prize winners have already got several winning experiences.
As entrants' level is very high, it is difficult to break the
wall just by tying a little more patterns than other tyers. In
order to develop yourself from fly tyer to dresser, from craftsman
to artist, you need your concentration without hesitation and
your high spirit rising above skill. What is the fly? What is
the fly fishing? To find these answers, I think, is the key to
solve all the problems.
