A General Comment on the 11th Fly Dressing Contest
What a short period we feel! This Fly Dressing Contest has been held since 1992. We are very ploud that we could hold 11th FLY DRESSING CONTEST. This Contest aims at contenting the beautifulness and creativity of dressing flies among all serious fly dressers in the world.
Although we had not so many entries at this time, because it's standard was remarkably high, fortunately this brought us two fresh Grand-Prix winners such as Mr. Junji Ichimura and Mr. Sacha Puetz.
At glimpse of their art, they have just opposite character each other. However, they had succeeded in producing graceful art by their own sense that brings them the highest rank of this world.
We expect their work of creation with pleasure for us.
Japanese Fly dresser Mr. Junji Ichimura has been a regular fly dresser of the CONTEST. At his first participation in the year 1994, he got the "prize of effort". From the 6th contest, his ability started to be conspicuous among the distinguished dressers. He got the prize of "Excellent art works" by his own work of "Master Blaster". Again he got the same prize in the next year by dressing "Sir. Conrad" of Jorgensen. But his delusion had appeared, as well. Since then he has been captivated to various attractions. His work was sometimes very good and sometimes dull due to the lack of existence of living creature.
His works were highlighted again from the 5th competition after the long delusion. He showed us his remarkable sense and techniques on his own work "Meddle, "Nah Nah" and traditional "Black Dog".
At that time, his only subject was how to express his original work so vividly.
Finally we have a chance to see his outstanding works in this 11th Contest. I hope he will dress the fly of which everyone can recognize as his work.
In 1999, a young fresh German fly dresser with great power and plenty of grit applied the 8th Fly Dressing Contest. Mr. Sacha Puetz was his name. He made "Shade of Blue" by his own. Since then, he has been participating with his original works basically.
At 4th competition held in the next year, he had dressed "Purple of Love" and "Once in a Life Time". These were very beautiful if they stand only in air, not in the water. Probably because he had too much desire to make beautiful feather works instead of fishing flies, I believe.
From the 9th Contest in the year of 2000, his work looked to be in the harvest period. He had gathered many kind of attractions from the other works and put them in his work such as "Midnight Sun" and "Refused ".
His unrestrained dressing way has suddenly changed from the 10th Contest. "The cult" and "Shade of Blue" were still trials, but they were with harmony that the good fishing flies should have.
In the next Competition held in 2002, he has completely hatched to the great dresser who had both of sense and techniques. I really hope that he will make the fly with his remarkable personality in the future, as well.
