The next trial, usually the result disappointed us, because no salmon in the river...

サーモンの遡上数が多い年は、更にもっと釣ってやろうと、色々な実験を試みます。
持ち帰って次回の戦略を立てますが、ほとんどの場合、アテが外れてお蔵入り。だってサーモンがごっそりやって来る年なんて、そう頻繁にはないんですから。
